Because even though I want to live better, I want to enjoy life, I want to be happy.  Even though I have desires enough to leave my home, family, and friends, and move to other countries for "the better life" and "better opportunity".  But deep down I love sympathy and misery.  I'm addicted to them.  If I bettered myself I'd have nothing to blame.  And then I will be deprived of the sympathy and misery.  I love the feeling of getting charity, sympathy.  And to further inculcate the business of mutual sympathy and misery, I call myself charitable, and every now and then through my rotten wasted food at a hungry child.  I feel very charitable when I do that.  Social worker I am.  I've done my bit to change the world.

Even when I move to another land, I do not better myself.  The moment I return I go back to being my pathetic self to start the process of sympathy all over again.  And to ensure that I get sympathy anywhere I go in the world, I make sure I tell the world the miserable, horrible odds that I'm faced with "back home".  The world then celebrates my slightest achievement, like knowing how to be able to find my arse with both hands.

I have an addiction.  I love sympathy. I love misery.  Please don't cure me, it hurts.  Just give me one more fix.  Please give me some sympathy.  You'll feel good too.  You'll feel charitable.  God will love you.  He will give you even more, don't worry.  I will give the sympathy right back to you.

My response:

Unfortunate, desperate, and mediocre lives need to show that they have "arrived" when they really haven't.  They need to do such things since they haven't really achieved anything else. They haven't educated themselves, or bettered themselves in any way.  All they have are senseless parties, dark glasses on their heads, designer bags, and stories of expensive travel.  Most of the time the glasses, and the bags are fake, and the travel is imaginary.

We have many "socialites" amongst us who all they do is sell their inherited properties to maintain and show off their wealthy life style.

We don't show our enriched lives to make friends.  We throw sick parties for alcoholics and scantily (if at all) dressed women to achieve a position in society.  And it works because we live among a mediocre people. 

I know what I need to do to achieve great success, to fulfil my dreams. But…. I don’t do it.

Why?

Those who have been blessed with knowledge will indeed be concerned.  But those who fail to fathom, will go dance in the rain. The wind, the lightening and grunts of clouds will not scare them until, the moment comes and lightening hits them or their beloved one.  

I faced such a disaster today, when my teacher told me; “Rida, some people are naturally good at things, it is okay that you are not and should accept it as it is.”  

Human beings. They are known to be creatures of wisdom-‘Ashraf-ul-Makhlooqat’. And yet we tell one another that not all of us are granted with the same skill and knowledge. Maybe we are insecure. Perhaps judgemental but it could be that we are simply foolish.  

Such a remark from a teacher only leaves a student with no hope of his or her future. Is the teacher not alarmed of the thunderstorm that will strike down if I lose one more mark? Indeed it will change my desire of being a psychiatrist to a psychologist. But it could get worse- I could be in neither of the preferred fields, all too due to that one mark on my test.  

I am not going to dance in the rain like other kids in my class, who believe that getting a C is good enough. I am sorry, I am a Sagittarius and I am born to aim high. I believe in the power of hard work and right guidance. I have heard many successful stories. And I will not let this very false attitude of my teacher stop me from achieving my dream.  

It was on Bang-e-Dara a couple of days back, when Faisal Qureshi invited three young ladies who wanted to do something in life, but lacked guidance. I never knew that right guidance was so important in becoming successful. You can have the skill; you can be the highest achiever but you, with only desire of finishing university, getting married, having children and earning a living… 

Well…in that case my friend, I don’t see anything special about you. I don’t see any difference in your’s or previous generation. I don’t see any desire for a ‘change’ in you. And I don’t believe you understand your job as a human.  

If we all were so incapable of doing things, God wouldn’t have granted us this special title of ‘Ashraf-ul-Makhlooqat”. To me it seems that we are born to learn and educate- not just reproduce. Figure out solutions of various problems and settle conflicts. I believe this is the job of human beings. 

“And among mankind is he who disputeth concerning Allah without knowledge or guidance or a scripture giving light” – Surah Hajj verse 8.  

So what if my teacher disputes my intelligence and hard work. I believe in continuously working hard and seeking guidance from some other teacher, after all not all the teachers are same.
